4/27/98: a reader, Mr. Sugizaki.
I think that my experience is a sort of trouble of PB2400c. This story is about the repairing of the AC adapterユs wire, which was almost snapped off, by myself although I finally got new one.I use PB2400c/180 since I got it in last December. I had worried about the snapping of AC adapterユs wire because the quality is poor (especially DC output side) and it is difficult to put the wire away.
The display light started to flicker two weeks ago. Although first my thought was a malfunction of the display unit, I realized that the display flickered when I touched the root of AC adapterユs DC output side. The wire looked like almost snapped. I wrapped the root of the wire with tape to reinforce, and use it very carefully. Then, the other day, I bought a spare AC adapter.
Recent type of AC adapter including PB2400ユs one has a structure that is difficult to take apart it because the case parts are glued each other, but I tried to take apart it.
To open the case, cut the hollow of seam by using a cutter for acrylic board or a small saw for metalworking. We should be careful in opening the case to prevent the damage of the inside parts though the possibility seems to be low because the inside is covered with metallic plate.
If you are familiar with soldering of an electric part, the following step, cutting the snapped portion of the DC wire and soldering it like original, must be simple. You need some heat contractible tube.
Join the case together by taping if you do not mind the looks. In my case, I ground the surface in section with sandpaper to make there flat, then glued them by an epoxy-type bonding agent.
I recommend to handle the joint between the wire and the adapter unit very carefully. I had cared the joint, but I also sometime dangled it; nevertheless.Such a kind of handling must put some stress of the joint even though the weight of the AC adapter unit is light. Although lighter weight is good for us, the finishing such as the storage of the wire is very poor, isnユt it ?
I think that I should have taken the picture of the repairing process by a digital camera. I do not have a plan to do that again because it is a sort of hard work, but if I have a chance, I would record the process.
