5/17/98: a reader, Mr. Nojima
I think that the sleep indicator lamp had not lit. To restart the machine, I connected a power-adapter and pushed first the power-switch, then the reset-button, but those did not work. At the time, I was on a business trip, so I took it to the NCR quick-garage (one of the most famous repair service provider in Japan) in Nihonbashi, Osaka. The staff and I decided to take apart my PB2400, and the logic board and I/O board were exchanged. But it still did not start up. Finally, they fixed it by exchanging the CPU card. All the boards were now brand-new. The track-pad button was also exchanged (that was the second exchange since last December) because the action was not good.
Since I bought it last August, the track-pad button, logic board, and I/O board have each been exchanged twice and the CPU board and AC adapter have both been exchanged once. I do not know exactly about the reason of malfunction this time, but the screws were not loose.
I also asked to adjust the position of heat sink. After that. the temperature indicator in the Control strip has indicated less than 60°C, which was 10°C lower than before. I think that this means that the CPU had not adhered to the heat sink tightly before. The heating up to 70°C might be the reason of the CPU damage. I don't think that I need to use Nari's idea of the radiation seal.
