08/11/98:a reader, Mr. Kageyama
- I got a PB2400c/180 in November, 1997. Soon after, my PB2400 had a sort of malfunction in the track pad button, so I took my PB2400 to the computer shop where I bought it, and they fixed it well. After the repair, I had handled my PB2400 very carefully and it had worked reasonably well.
- If that had been the only problem, that would have been OK. However, at the end of March, because the track-pad button became very hard to click, I took my PB2400 to NCR Sendaiユs quick-garage (one of the most famous repair service providers in Japan) on April 3rd. The button was exchanged immediately. But, it happened again one month later! So I went to NCR again to seek repair.
- But it happened again and again in the next month! I went to NCR Sendai on June 7th again (this was third time). I moved to Hakodate in mid-June, but as fate would have it, the problem happened again in Hakodate.
- After I moved, my PB2400 was in the shop in NCR Hakodate twice in two months. The NCR staff told me "now everything will be fine because Apple released a new, improved palm-rest part." But the "improved" track-pad button was just like a moody person because it worked fine sometimes and then suddenly it did not respond at all. What the heck was going on?
- To make matters worse, recently my mouse pointer started to move very slowly and even not to move at all. Although a shortcut-key combination provided an emergency solution, I could not be patient anymore, and I bought a mouse the day before yesterday. The mouse works fine, with a comfortable click sound.
- Yesterday (August 10th), I asked NCR Hakodate to provide some suggestions. They said "Well, the last resort is to exchange the logic board."
- A sequel will follow because the board takes time to arrive. Stay tuned.
