5/27/98: a reader, Mr. Yamamoto
- Yesterday (May 24th), my three-week-old PB2400/240 did not start-up. While I was writing, I let the machine go to sleep. After the sleep, my PB2400 froze when I tried to wake it up. So, I tried to restart the machine, but it did not work, even though the machine made a start-up sound. Repeating the start-up operation did not help. I took it to an NCR quick-garage (one of the most famous repair service provider in Japan).
- Their answer was that the cause must be the logic board as expected, and the board was exchanged in about 40 minutes. The staff said, "Do you use an L-shaped cheap SCSI adapter? There have been several cases of logic board malfunction caused by imperfect connection of the adapter to the PB2400's SCSI connector." I used a similar adapter to connect a Zip drive. Probably that was the cause of the malfunction.
