NUPowr G3 2400 Impression

- SPEED
- Comparing with the original 180MHz PowerPC603e card, you
can definetly feel improvement of (MacOS) booting time,
(Application) launching time, and window handling. However, it
is not obvious change, because the original PowerBook2400 has
run fast enough to feel less stress to be handled.
- Then, I tried a heavy loaded test as you expected. I got
VirtualPC2.0, then installed Windows95 and
evaluated Microsoft Office95 as a test. I cannot say it
is no stress to use it under this condition, but I think the
processing speed is of practical use. It is difficult to
explain this feeling. It is not that Microsoft Office barely
run. It is no problem even if you display a graph by Microsoft
Excel. You can use a Windows95 environment on G3 card with 80MB
RAM and 4GB Hard disk.
- It might be appropriate to evaluate this card if you use
compressing and expanding applications . There is a dramatic
change when you compress or expand a file containing 50MB
data.
-
- COMPATIBILITY
- There is no problem to run any applications and to use any
peripherals I have.
-
- HEAT
- Extremely hot, I thought the bottom part would melt. The
internal temperature was 62 degrees Celsius when measured by
CSM. However, the trackpad was never too hot to touch. Several
unique radiation techniques were performed to dissipate
internal heat(I did not use external radiation devices.), but
the most effective change is the spring of heat sink.
-
- BATTERY
- If you run G3 card at 1:2 ration of backside cashe, the
battery runs out for approximate 1 hour. My battery had
already not been able to last over 1 and a half hour, but it is
clear that battery life decrease. If you turn off the
backside cashe, it becomes almost the same bettery life. I
wanted to compare with the G3 card and the original PowerPC603e
card under the same condition, but I changed the original card
into the G3 card before recorded an evaluation test of the
original PowerPC603e card...
