When I was reading an old computer magazine, I found a funny ad. It was about a small shop selling computer accessories. In that ad, there were several photos of accessories -- keyboard, mouse, bags... and a piece of charcoal! Yes, charcoal for BBQ. But what for? So I read the description below that photo -- it said 'charcoal is good to heal your body when you get tired after a long-time computer work!'. But it did not mention how to use it.
I wonder how... putting it on my forehead? Is there any medical reason? Mmmm... I do not understand! If you know how to use charcoal to heal your body, or if you actually use one for this purpose, tell me please!
Anyway this ad was so funny that I detached that page from the magazine and stuck it on the wall beside my bed. It might do something good to me...! (I do not think so! :-p)

Believe it or not, it has been snowing here over this Easter holiday.
Since I am from snowy place in Japan, I am not surprised to see snow at this time of the year. But even so, it makes me feel a little disappointed to see the roads covered with snow in April especially after I already had my overcoat dry-cleaned and polished boots...
Probably, one of the most typical image of British style is a gentleman in a nice suit with a bowler hat and an umbrella (isn't it?). But I have NEVER seen one like that! (Like you never see a samurai in Japan.) I mean, people do not use an umbrella in the rain. Actually it seems that they do not care to get soaked at all. I sometimes feel guilty to use my umbrella.
Under the circumstances, they obviously are not good to have PowerBooks. I think it is essential to offer an umbrella as a giveaway with a PowerBook (including a user's guide of course!) :-p
Mmmm... I wish I could stay home today. The weather forecast says we will have even more snow this week...

It has been ONE week since this web site was launched. Phew!
Sometimes I still cannot believe that I am managing this page... Only a few years ago, I did not even like computers and I was never going to have one myself. But now, I turn on my PowerBook as the first thing to do in every morning, and take my Duo to the lab with me everyday. Funny, isn't it?
Of course there were some people and things led me here during the past few years. Life is full of mysteries! :-p What shall I do next?
By the way, have you experienced troubles with AppleTalk and Duo? If so, or if you know any tips about AppleTalk, please tell me!

Happy Easter!
Easter means eggs. Eggs mean chocolate (in UK anyway). There are so many egg-shaped chocolate in shops -- from small ones like quail eggs to big big ones like ostrich eggs. Everybody eats chocolate in Easter.
Well, most British people are chocoholic I guess and so am I. One good thing about UK is its wide variety of chocolate. You can see many many chocolate bars in shops and they are rather cheap. I usually buy one bar on my way to college every morning trying to taste all of them! Of course I must be careful not to put on weight though... (This is a difficult bit!)
Mmmm... I feel like eating chocolate! I am going shopping!

It is a total DISASTER!!!
My Duo230 (Muttley) has (had) a blue caps-lock LED, a red LED HD access lamp and a yellow LED HD power indicator with a crystal trackball (Figure 1). But recently the yellow LED has been on and off occasionally, so today I, as a 'PowerBook Lady', decided to fix it myself.
Reading the Project X'tal page in Duo-Zone (in Japanese), I disassembled Muttley and found a wire (arrow A in Figure 2) was disconnected. At first I tried to reconnect it with super glue, but it did not work so then I tried to fix it with sticky tape. And... it happened.
I swear, I was very careful! I really do not know how it happened. I just saw it -- the other ends of wires (arrows B and C) were also disconnected!!! Oh NO!!! I do not believe it! What am I going to do? I cannot even remember which wire was connected to where!
So I just gave it up, reassembled Muttley, replaced a crystal ball with a yellow ball so I did not see these damn LEDs and -- cried. This is so sad and disgraceful. At least Muttley is still working OK with a blue caps-lock LED, that is a good news... SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!

It is 'Good Friday' today in UK.
I do not know what it means though, it is nice to have a holiday! We will have 4 days off till Monday (Easter Monday). It is like Christmas time! :-p
So I sat up late last night (as always!) and watched a film 'Minbo no Onna' on TV. Surprised? Here in UK, they show Japanese films on TV sometimes (usually late at night). I do not watch Japanese films in Japan (except 'HANA-BI' in January), but I cannot help myself to be sensitive to Japanese language here. It is good to watch these films -- at least I can understand everything (apart from the quality of films) and it is fun to read subtitle in English! I wonder how many British people watched it...
By the way, I think that I will have the 1000th visitor today or tomorrow. Wow! Great! I was not going to put the counter in this page at first, but I cannot ignore it now... :-p

I did not know there are so many search engines. I will try and register this site to all of them -- well eventually! I think I should check every search engine if I can find any information on Duo there... It must be a tough job... phew! I wish somebody did this for me. :-p
George Michael has been arrested for alleged 'lewd conduct'. Can you believe it? He is a good singer and I used to like him. Well, there are funny rumors about him though...
Another news struck me is that Hiromi Go was divorced! (He is a Japanese singer, and I have been a big fan of him since his debut!) This may be a big chance for me... (I know you burst into laughter now, but I do not care! Go on, keep laughing!)Wed. 8 April 1998

YAS-san created it for me (thanks!) because some people told me that the file size was a little too large for the first one. This is still a 'temporary' solution, YAS-san says, but I cannot wait till the 'real' solution comes!

I am amazed that so many Duo fans are still surviving and discovered this site within only a few hours time after it was open. It is an exciting and kinda weird experience for me. There must be something like a magnet between us! -- I mean, let's not exaggerate! :-p
By the way, does your Duo have a name? Mine does. His name is Muttley. (Don't laugh!) Why don't you give your precious Duo a pretty or cool name? I want to hear from you about your Duo's name. (I know, I know, this is a stupid idea!) Also, what icon do you use for your 'Macintosh HD'? Show me your lovely icons! (Oh my goodness! This is really stupid! But still I will be waiting...)

Sorry to keep you waiting so long!
I have just launched this info-packed web site for all Duo enthusiasts (especially for those non-Japanese speaking people) in the world today. Although some part of this site is still under construction, I do hope you enjoy it!
In Duo-Zone (Japan), so many exciting projects and discussions have been going on to make alternative Duos. I would like to introduce you these stuff and to discover other interesting ideas about Duo remaining in obscurity. I would be delighted to hear from you to make this place more satisfiable.
Oh, I should not forget this! My huge thanks must go to Mr. taji (Duo-Zone) who put me into this hot spot, Mr. Iijima (PowerBook Army) who kindly prepared the directory for this site, and Mr. YAS (RIKIBON) and Mr. Tomozo who let me use some of their nice graphic works.

（今日で試運転はおしまいです。）いよいよ明日からは一般公開（笑）となります。
ここを日本語で書くのも今日で終わりです。なんとなくさびしいような気もします。でも、その反面、実はちょっとほっとしてたりもして。（笑）毎日更新するのは楽しいのだけど、「日記」としての更新は結構ヘヴィでもあります。そもそもあたしの場合、日記なんて毎年書こうとはするけれど三日坊主で終わっちゃうのだから・・・。しかも公開する日記ですからねー。ホントのホントの気持ちは書けないです。かといって毎日そうそうネタになるようなおもしろいことが起こるわけでもなく。まあ別におもしろいことばっかり書くこともないんだろうけど、そういうことが何日か続くとそれはそれで落ち込んじゃいますからね。（笑）個人のホームページで赤裸々な日記を公開してる人ってそれがひとつのジャンルになっちゃうぐらいたくさんいるけど、それって精神分析医にでもかかるような感覚なのかなぁ。
さて、それはともかく、あしたからはどんな人が見に来てくれるのでしょうか？やっぱり最初はSquareやPBAの人達、つまり「身内」ですよね。これでカウンタは100ぐらいまでは行くかな？（笑）しかし問題はその後。YASさんは「大学関係者とか結構多いかも」って言ってたけど、もしそれがホントだったら、なんだかちょっと怖いなぁ。あたし、人見知りもするし。（爆）はぁ〜。がんばって人付き合いしなきゃ。（笑）
それともうひとつ、ちょっとした課題。あたしが「かわいい女の子」（核爆！）であることをなんとか明記せずにページの雰囲気からアピールしたいものです。（笑）「Nao」だけじゃ日本人だって間違っちゃうんだから、ガイジンさんなら絶望的だよなぁ。ページ作りながら、自分ではできるだけかわいくしようとしたつもりなんだけど、やっぱり話題が話題だし。でも下手なことやって「ゲイ」だと思われてもイヤだしなぁ。（爆）あー、難しい！この件について、良いアイディアのある人はぜひメールください！（ってここで書いてもダメだって。）

（お花見はいかがですか？）きょうは東京ではお花見オフですね。どんな展開になるんでしょうか・・・。（笑）ここリバプールではGrand Nationalという有名な競馬の障害物レースがあります。（笑）去年は出走直前に爆弾テロ騒ぎがあって延期されたっけ・・・。
それはともかく、お花見というと桜。実はあたしはいわゆるお花見（場所取りして酒飲んで騒ぐってやつね）なるものをしたことがありません。それはなんでかっていうと、あたしの育った北海道には桜があんまりないからです。・・・「ない」ってのは語弊がありますね。いっぱいあるんですけど、ちょっと違うんです。札幌の桜開花はゴールデンウィークの頃。その頃には葉っぱの方はかなり成長してるので、花が咲いたときにはすでに葉桜状態で、しかも桜の木が群生している場所ってあんまりないから、「さぁー、花見だ！」って気合いが入らないんですね。（笑）でも学生の頃は有名な（北海道では）桜並木がある静内（襟裳岬のあたりね）までよくドライブに行ったものです。う〜ん、なつかしいぞ！（笑）
だから、まるででかい噴水か滝のように（わかるかな？この表現。）桜が乱れ咲きしてるのを初めて見たときはブッ飛びました。（笑）こりゃ、酒が飲みたくなるのも頷けるな、ってね。（爆）
Squareのみなさん、飲み過ぎないようにね！・・・って、もう遅いか。（爆）

（タイトル画像に注目！）YASさん、ありがとう！！！
YASさんがこのDuo-Zone Internationalのために「特別に」作ってくれた新しいタイトル画像をとくとご覧ください！いやぁ、いい仕事してますねー。いんたーなしょなる探検隊な雰囲気が出てて良いですねー。思わず見入っちゃいますねー。（笑）少なくともうちのベルモント君ではきれいに見えてます。それにしても、わずか数時間で（？）これを作ってくれちゃったYASさん、さすがです！お代はさっそく経理の方に・・・。（爆）これで一般公開の準備もつつがなく整いました。・・・ね？（って誰に聞いてる？）カウンタも地味ーに増えてますね。（爆）
ところで。ねぇねぇ、あたしの赤いスケルトン、見た？う〜ん、かっちょいいですねー！血の赤。情熱の赤。トマトの赤。（笑）ちょっと色が濃いかったかなって感じもするけど、強そうでいいっす。（「濃い」赤で頼んだつもりじゃなかったんだけどね。笑）「浮輪」にも見えないし。（爆）早く手元に呼びよせて「あたしの」540cに装着したいものです。ひとりでできるかな？（笑。これでパキッタ君やっちゃったらしゃれになんないからなー。）
きょうはかっちょいいものづくめで気分がいいですねー。（笑）単なる親バカでしょうか・・・。

（すでに家出計画？）Duo-Zone Internationalの公開日を決定しました。4月6日（月）イギリス時間0:00（日本時間8:00）をもって正式にスタートです！思えばこの1か月というもの、これのことで心ここにあらず、って感じだったなぁ。HP作成からアップロードまですべて初めてのことばかり。Duoのこともなんにも知らなかったし・・・。（笑）YASさんにもとも蔵さんにも画像の使用を快諾してもらったし（YASさんはちょっとイジケまじりだったけど）で、あとは紹介文を書いて、と。（笑）
しかしYASさんにはいきなりDuo-Zoneへの裏切り（笑）を勧められちゃった。（で、ちょっとその気になってるあたしもあたしだ！）とにかくちゃんと公開して運営していくのが先決ですね。そのうち新企画も思いつくことでしょう。（笑）誰か海外でおもしろい改造とかやってる人が見つかるといいなぁ。
あ、あたしも来週からは英語でこれ書かなきゃならないんだ・・・。やっぱ毎日更新は無理だろうなぁ。「身内ネタ」使えないし。（笑）

（く〜っ、早く公開しときゃよかった〜！）いやぁ、やってくれるな〜。まったく朝から焦りまくりました。ゆうべ寝しなにDuo-Zoneを覗いたらなにやら日本時間午後1時に重大なお知らせがある様子。で、今朝いそいそと行ってみたら「なんじゃこりゃ〜！」あわててSquare界隈をさまよってみたものの、どいつもこいつもわけわかんない・・・。
で、しばし（10分ぐらい）混乱した後で賢いあたしは（爆）はたと気がついたのだ！「今日はウソップオッケーの日じゃん！」うーん、さすが・・・。誰が言い出したのか・・・。とにかく参りましたぁっ！（笑）最初はマジで「え、このDuo-Zone Internationalはど〜なるのぉ？」などと心配したものです。（なんて勝手な心配なんでしょ！）そういえばこっちでも「Greenwich天文台がビール会社のGuinessに乗っ取られて、GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)がGuiness Mean Timeに変わることになった」なーんてウソップニュースもやってたっけ・・・。
それにしてもこんなことができるのもPBAならでは、もとい、インターネットのなせるワザですね。つくづく自分のHPを持ちたいと思いました。っていうか、「あぁあ、もうちょっと早くDuo-Zone Internationalをオープンしてたらあたしもこのウソップ祭りに参加できたのにぃぃ」と地団駄踏んでるのだっ。くやしい〜！（笑）来年はきっと・・・。
まさか、あれ全部ホントじゃないよね？

（テスト第3日目。だんだん調子出てきた！・・・かな？）突然ですが、全世界百億万人のDuo愛好家のみなさん（笑）お待たせいたしました！Duo-Zone Internationalにカウンタを付けてみました！（ぃえ〜ぃ！）ちょっと地味な配置ですけど公開後、数字の増え具合を見てまた考えましょう。
けさ、Toyokiさんからメールが来ました。あたしのベルモントちゃん用の赤いスケルトンパーツができあがったとのこと。おおっ、待ってました！しかも赤にしたのはあたしだけ。ということはまさしく世界にたったひとつのPowerBookです！で、Toyokiさんの用件は、その赤いスケルトンの写真を撮りたいとのこと。もちろん大オッケーですよー！も、もしやMAC LIFEに載るのかしら？せっかく写真撮ってもらうんだからハガキにしてもらっちゃおうかな、Duoではないけどここにむりやり載せちゃおうかな、などなど今日もちっとも落ちつかないNaoなのでありました。（笑）
これ、更新するのって結構楽しいもんですね。英語でだとそうはいかないかもしれませんが・・・。

（テスト第2日目。とりあえずまだ日本語で！）突然ですが、全世界百億万人のDuo愛好家のみなさん（笑）お待たせいたしました！Duo-Zone Internationalの始動から一夜明けました！（爆）
ゆうべ初めてこれをアップして一応Netscapeで動作を確認してからちょっと一息ついてもう一度アクセスしてみたら、どうやらサーバーがダウンしている様子。「もしやあたしのせいでは・・・。」と密かに気になってます。（笑）でもホントだったらしゃれになんないなぁ。今のうちに謝っとこ！「申し訳ございませんでしたー！！」（って誰に謝ってる？）
きょう一日、このページのことを考え続けてしまいました。ちょろっと見直してみただけでも英語の間違いはいっぱい出てくるし、文章もまだまだ稚拙。もう一度最初っから全部作りなおしたいくらいです。（笑）その反面、早く公開して肩の荷を降ろしたい（逆かなぁ？）っていう気持ちも・・・。あー、心の葛藤は続く・・・。（爆）
更新してもtajiさんしか読んでくれる人がいないんですね・・・。（これじゃ私信だ。）やっぱりさっさと公開しちゃいましょうか。（笑）

（テスト第１日目。とりあえず日本語でごあいさつ！）突然ですが、全世界百億万人のDuo愛好家のみなさん（笑）お待たせいたしました！Duo-Zone Internationalの始動です！
ご存じの通り、Duo-Zoneは昨年の9月以来、tajiさんが運営してきたサイトで、今では日本のDuo市場にも絶大なる影響を与える（？）有名サイトとなりました。この間、tajiさんの元には海外ののDuoユーザーからもメールが寄せられ、その中には日本語が理解できないことを残念がる声も少なからず書かれていました。
tajiさんのところに来た英文メールへの対応をお手伝いしたよしみで、このたび私がこのDuo-Zone Internationalを担当することになったわけですが、私自身、現在イギリスに住み、まわりにはPowerBookどころかMacユーザーも全くいない環境で情報の希薄さに対する憤りをずいぶん感じてきました。同じような思いを抱えた世界中のDuoユーザーが、Duo-Zoneへたどり着いたのでしょう。
Duo-Zone Internationalでは本家Duo-Zoneで進行中のユニークな活動を紹介しながら、Duoファンの輪をさらに広げていきたいと考えています。これから徐々にNaoテイスト（笑）を織り込んで、tajiさんのDuo-Zoneとはまたひと味違ったものにしていこうと思います。当然のことながら全編英語ですので逆に日本のみなさんには敬遠されるかもしれませんが、是非、ときどき覗いてご意見・ご感想をお聞かせ下さい。
